Tea Party Anthem translated

Sigrid : Thursday 04 February, 2010 : Blog, US politics

There’s a ‘Tea Party’ movement going on in the US. People joining it are upset about the high level of government spending and are radically opposed to the proposed health care bill. They’re even saying Obama is a socialist. I have to wonder if there are no Political Science departments at American universities You’d think people would want to know what they are talking about when throwing around words like ’socialist’ and ‘Marxist’. Anyways, they have a song, the Tea Party Anthem. While you listen to it, make sure to catch the lyrics. No worries if you don’t understand or get appalled. I took the liberty to translate the lyrics (see below the video) so you get what these Tea Party people are really fighting for.

Mr President!
Your stimulus is sure to cost
It reminds us of socialists because
Everyone will have to donate something
And not everyone is entitled to the American Dream

You wanna take from achievers
Somehow you think that’s fair
And redistribute to those folks
Who are too sick to  sit up in a chair

We’re havin’ a tea party across this land
If you love your money
Come on and join our band
We’re standin’ up for profit and indignity
Cause people have shown us charity ain’t free

So when they call you a racist you might agree
It’s just another truth but it won’t silence you and me
I believe in the Constitution and all it stands for
Except what I don’t like, that should be booted out the door

Now we’re not advocating violence
That’s what the so-called peace crowd do
We’re talkin’ peaceful protest to defend our dollars’ value

We gotta vote out these clowns who don’t love our green bills of USA
Who stay up late losing sleep fearing what all the poor people will say

Android experiment #2: how to root your HTC Hero and install any custom ROM or even Android 2.1 (without HTC Sense)

Sigrid : Thursday 04 February, 2010 : Android, Blog, Gadgets, Guides

After discovering HTC doesn’t support updating their phones’ firmware with a Mac computer, I got really annoyed. Rooting my phone was a risk I wasn’t willing to take (thinking of the many sleepless nights jailbreaking my iPhone 2G) but what other choice did I have now? I can be very impatient and even more so when I’m annoyed. So I decided to root my phone after all to get my Android fix. It turned out to be a piece of cake these days. I mostly followed this guide.  I experienced some errors but they turned out be the new ROM’s fault (or mine while installing it) and were not related to the process of rooting the phone. To give you a very small basic recap on what I did (if you need more details, check out the full guide) here ’s a guide to rooting your Hero phone: more »

Why I no longer like the iPhone and why I love Android (+ an experiment)

Sigrid : Tuesday 02 February, 2010 : Android, Blog, Gadgets

I’ve been in my phone geek mode for a bit the last days. Yesterday I suddenly wondered if I could get @ms_powder , an iPhone addict, to use an Android phone for a while. Why? Well, I’ve been very annoyed by the iPhone lately . I’ve also heard @ms_powder curse her own iPhone several times these last weeks.  Since I’m the one who convinced her to buy the phone  a year ago I came up with this little experiment. Can she make the switch to an Android phone? Is she geeky enough or are Android phones non geek proof? more »
